Hardscaping : walking the perfect path
Paths do more more then simply lead somewhere. They say something along the way. The feel underfoot, the sound it makes as you move along it, how it pulls you through a space, “its pace”… it all shapes how the garden is experienced. Even a simple choice like choosing gravel or paving can quietly shift the tone.
Gravel adds texture, light and sound. It drains well and settles into the shape of its surroundings. Paving on the other hand, brings structure. It’s soft underfoot and visually grounding. When using together, they can strike a a perfect balance - comfort, structure and water management all at once.
There is of course, no perfect formula that suits every home. However, there are questions worth asking: how does this path connect to the house? what mood does it set? will it invite me out, or draw me me in? sometimes the best answers come from standing in the space, taking it all in and walking the route in your mind.
